Call to Order. Mayor Ted Shaw called the Thursday, April 02, 2009, Board of Review and Equalization Meeting of the Moose Lake City Council to Order. After calling the meeting to Order, Mayor Ted Shaw asked those in attendance to join with the City Council in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition to Mayor Shaw the following City Councilors were in attendance: Bill Carlson. Also in attendance was City Administrator David Talbot, Jr.
New Business. Mayor Ted Shaw introduced Ms. Marci Moreland, Carlton County Assessor, who in turn introduced members of her, Moreland’s, office. According to Carlton County Assessor Moreland, Carlton County’s rate of mortgage foreclosures is approximately three percent [3%]. Assessor Moreland also provided an overview of the changes that have transpired throughout Carlton County and the State and went on to delineate the changes that are required to be made by the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
According to the Public Record and the sign-in sheet[s], there were three [3] residents or property owners who wished to be heard. They were: Mr. Robin Mathew; Mr. Jason Benzie; and, Mr. Dean Vitse. Carlton County Assessor Moreland and members of the Carlton County Assessors Office met with each individual property owner to review their, the attendees, concerns. Carlton County Assessor Moreland stated her, Moreland’s, request that a Resolution be prepared and submitted to the Office of the Carlton County Assessor stating acceptance of the recommendation for changes or adjustments made by the City of Moose Lake. Under a Motion made by Mayor Ted Shaw, and with a second to the Motion being made and offered by City Councilor Bill Carlson, the changes and adjustments recommended by the Carlton County Assessor are confirmed. Motion carried by unanimous vote of the Board of Review and Equalization.
City Administrator was reminded by Carlton County Assessor Moreland that the Moose Lake City Council adopted a Resolution stating that the City wished to keep the Board of Appeal and Equalization at the local level and not have the Carlton County Assessors Office serve as the Board. The Moose Lake City Council also went so far as to declare that the Board of Appeals and Equalization would remain the City Council, and that all decisions as to changes or adjustments would be made by a majority vote of the members of the Moose Lake City Council that were present at the Board meeting, duly called.
Other Business. None.
Adjournment. There being no further business to come before the Moose Lake Board of Equalization and Adjustment, Mayor Ted Shaw stated that he, Mayor Shaw, would entertain a Motion to Adjourn. Under a Motion being made and offered by Mayor Ted Shaw, and with a second to the Motion being made and offered by City Councilor Bill Carlson, Mayor Ted Shaw stated that the meeting of the Moose Lake Board of Appeals and Equalization was closed.
Respectfully submitted,
David R. Talbot, Jr.
City Administrator
